Paula Bilá is one of the most powerful voices to emerge from Spain since the early 2000s. Deeply rooted in the flamenco of her Andalusian home, she writes, plays, and sings music that freely moves between various genres, yet always references the musical tradition of her homeland. Since moving to Amsterdam in 2021, she has increasingly devoted herself to traditional Latin American music, presenting it in unconventional arrangements, accompanied by a band that, at first glance, might seem like an odd pairing. The origins of the LEANING IN Underground: When guitarist Linus Eppinger was planning the release tour for his debut album "Leaning In," he faced a problem. He had booked several shows that didn't meet the standards of the band he would be touring with. This led to the tour being split—in the first half, all the prestigious shows were performed with the prestigious lineup, while for the second half, the Underground tour, the rhythm section was replaced by younger, cheaper colleagues. Following the tour, the band confidently asserted its underdog position and decided to stick with the name—The LEANING IN Underground. Pianist Nicolai Daneck and guitarist Linus Eppinger have been playing together since their early days in the “FSJ”, a local junior big band from the South of Germany. In 2021 they recorded their debut album "Leaning In” with a truly stellar rhythm section, Doug Weiss on bass and Jorge Rossy on drums. The album was praised for its "unprecedented musical maturity" (jazzism). Bassist Ties Laarakker possesses the rare gift of excelling in two disciplines. He has a PhD in mathematics and wrote his doctorate on "Universality in enumerative geometry and Vafa-Witten theory." He is also an outstanding double bassist. Peter Primus Frosch is one of the best jazz drummers in Europe; his unbridled energy and incredible technical mastery of his instrument have made him famous around the globe, sadly not for performing entire pieces of music but for little clips of really difficult stuff on drums — on instagram. He’s really good at playing entire pieces of music too, though. In der High School war Joey Finalist des National Youngarts und 2018 Gewinner des New Talent Award der LA Jazz Society. „Holt’s den Dudli…“ sagte Joe Zawinul nachdem Joris 2002 beim „Zawinul Syndicate“ einsprang. Obwohl sich nach dieser Aussage eine lange Liste von „spielte mit so und so“ eigentlich erledigt haben sollte, doch noch ein paar Fakten: Joris war von 1979 bis 1985 festes Mitglied des Vienna Art Orchestra und des Art Farmer Quintet‘s.
